My name is Mckinley Matthews and I am a sophomore at Millard South High School. I go to the 9 AM service, and I frequently work in the church nursery. I never have to worry about the holiday season. I never have to think that we might not be able to get gifts for Christmas. This time of year has always been such an exciting, joyful time for me. But I also understand that I am lucky to be in this situation. I understand there are so many families with children, who do not get this luxury, which is why I have decided to partner with St. Martin of Tours to provide that sense of hope for families this holiday season.
A toy, a book or even just a small gesture of thoughtfulness can bring so much joy and remind those who may feel forgotten that they are seen, they are cared for, and they are a part of something so much larger than their circumstances. This drive is larger than just material gifts; it’s about showing love and bringing kindness to the world in this time of uncertainty.
On December 21st at 10 AM at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church (24th and J Street) we will be giving out toys to neighborhood families.
I’m looking for volunteers to join with me, my friends, and the parishioners of St. Martin’s, and you can help in many ways. We need people the day of to come and help the event run smoothly – talk to me for more info. We can also take donations – please talk to Fr. Keith – AND are also asking for prayers for the families and for the event!
