Join us for Moving Night on Friday, March 14th (Supper at 6 PM, the movie “Sing Sing” at 7 PM).
About this movie: On March 2nd at the Academy Awards, John Whitfield will walk the red carpet at the Oscars. The next day, he’ll resume the fight to reverse his murder conviction.
Whitfield, 60, is nominated for best adapted screenplay for Sing Sing, a film depicting his own life. He will be accompanied to the Academy Awards by Colman Domingo, who is nominated for best actor for his portrayal of Whitfield.
This 2023 film is based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at Sing Sing Maximum Security Prison in New York. It centers on a group of incarcerated men involved in the creation of theatrical stage shows through the program. Actors in the film include many real-life formerly incarcerated men who were themselves alumni of the program during their incarceration.
Join us for supper at 6 PM on Friday, March 14th (vegetable soup provided—bring a side or dessert). The movie will begin at 7 PM and is 1:45 long.
Note: while there may be some tense scenes in the movie, there is no significant violence. The reason it is rated R is its frequent and strong language, including many uses of the “f-word” and other profanity, which is used throughout the film to accurately depict the harsh reality of life in a prison environment.
